Smithton is a town in the far north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. It lies on the Bass Highway, 85 km north-west of Burnie. It has a population of 3,159; averaging a decline of 1% per year (2001 census). Smithton is the administrative centre of the Circular Head Council. Smithton has a rich sporting and social culture, and the region is noted for its natural beauty.

The economy of Smithton is agriculture based, consisting primarily of beef and dairy farming. Other major industries that contribute to the local economy are fishing, aquaculture, crop farming, timber plantations and tourism.

Smithton has thrived in recent years, despite its remote location compared to the major cities, towns and highways.
