Industry includes pineapples, small crops, agriculture and tourism. many major attractions are close by as well as the Glass House Mountains National Park, State Forestry Lookouts, Matthew Flinders Park and the Wild Horse Lookout. Distance from Brisbane (State Capital): 59 kilometres.
Beerburrum forestry has entered into a new level of cooperation with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) in its fight to protect $110 million of exotic pine plantations and lives and property in the region from wildfires.
Three fire-fighting helicopters were placed on standby at Beerburrum in response to a serious fire situation that arose over the last weekend in November 2006.
The trial also provided important ongoing training for Forestry Plantations Queensland and QFRS fire-fighting staff. Beerburrum Forest Ranger Darron Moates and Toolara Overseer Pat McFarlane, for example, recently returned from an air attack supervisors training course in Western Australia, with Darron using this opportunity to hone his skills with air attack supervisors Alan Britcliffe from Beerburrum forestry and Bill Kennedy from QFRS.
