Gaythorne is a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located seven kilometres north-west of the Brisbane central business district. Gaythorne is situated on the slopes of Enoggera Hill. It shares some streets with the neighbouring suburb of Mitchelton. In the late 1990s it was split from Enoggera, a much larger suburb and a suburb it still shares its postcode with. It is a leafy, residential suburb with the dominant architectural style being “Queenslander” architecture. It adjoins the Enoggera Barracks and many of its streets are named after World War I sites.

Public transport facilities includes Gaythorne Railway Station on the Ferny Grove – City line.

Facilities such as hospitals, schools and shops are readily available. Brookside Shopping Centre, which opened in 1972 and is now a landmark in the area, was one of the first retail shopping centres in Brisbane and offers residents a choice of two large supermarkets, Myers, Target and smaller retail chains. Residents are also close to Stafford City Shopping Centre and Westfield Chermside, both with cinema and entertainment outlets.

Numerous private and public schools accommodating both primary and secondary aged children in Gaythorne and neighbouring suburbs including the McAuley Campus of the Australian Catholic University, Mt Maria Senior Catholic College, Mitchelton High and Mitchelton Primary to name a few.

According to the 2001 Census (Gaythorne was included in the 4051 postal area survey) there were 21,697 people living in the area with a median age of 33. The median individual income was between $400 and $499 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings 62% were either fully owned or being purchased; 38% were being rented.
