Midway between Maryborough and Childers, the small Bruce Highway town of Torbanlea is strategically placed at the crossroads to some of the region’s top tourist attractions. Hervey Bay, prime whale-watching centre and launching point for Fraser Island safaris, is just 37km to the east, while Burrum Heads and the fascinating Burrum River National Park are just a few kilometres to the north. Childers and Maryborough, of course, are steeped in Queensland history and are especially worth a visit to see their fine examples of preserved colonial homes and buildings. If you’d rather investigate the sea, why not combine some whale-spotting in the August to October period with some serious fishing or diving. The only problem facing boaties and fishing enthusiasts who make the spring-time migration to Hervey Bay will be to divide their time between diving, water and jet-skiing, sailboarding and snorkelling or whether to fish estuary, reef, beach or from the jetty.

Located a pleasant 25 minute drive from Hervey Bay, Torbanlea is one of the small historic towns found on the road to Bundaberg. The Burrum Mining museum has 11 buildings housing 4400 items of memorabilia, providing an insight into the history of the area, when coalmining was the industry driving the local economy.

Visitors to Torbanlea can experience the atmosphere of a country race meeting at the Torbanlea race track, when residents from throughout the district flock to the small town. Several race meetings are held throughout the year.

Lenthalls Dam off the Bruce Highway near Torbanlea is a fishing and boating paradise. It’s a great place for the whole family and worthwhile if you are keen on freshwater fishing
