Located on the fringe of the Poona National Park at the northern end of the Cooloola Coast, the small village of Boonooroo – perched in the lee of the world’s largest sand island – has it all.
The unspoiled landscape is characterised by golden beaches guarded by high sand dunes, native woodlands, heath and dense rainforest.
Boonooroo is accessible from the south through Cooroy or Gympie and through Maryborough from the north.
Boonooroo is on the shores of the Great Sandy Straits which divide the mainland from the world’s largest sand island and which can be leisurely explored aboard a hired house boat. Secure in the protected waters, you can relax to the rhythm of passing dugongs, dolphins or turtles, while the next meal is just a cast or a baited crab pot away.
